Now and Then
Let's have some fun with the ideas of what happens "Now" versus what could have happened "Then" in the Perfect Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve sinned (Fall of Man).
Now
You wake up in the morning (sleepy). You get ready for work. You cook. You eat breakfast. You feel refreshed (hopefully). You feed the dog. You kiss your spouse goodbye. You grab your umbrella in case it rains. You go to work. You spend eight hours working. You buy lunch. You eat lunch during work. You leave work and stop by the grocery store. You arrive home tired. You kiss your spouse hello. You feed the dog. You take the dog for a walk. You pay bills and balance the checkbook. You fix broken items in your house. You relax for a while. You cook. You eat dinner. You wash the dishes. You watch bad news on TV. You relax again for a while. You adjust the temperature in your house. You wash and dry your clothes. You get ready for bed. You sleep eight hours. You can't spend much time with your spouse. Repeat – repeat – repeat. |
Then
You wake up in the morning. You feel good. You go to the nearest tree and eat breakfast. You feel satisfied. You enjoy God’s Creation. You enjoy time with your spouse all day long. You enjoy good communication with your spouse. You tend the garden. You take care of the animals and other creatures. You go to the nearest plants and eat lunch. You enjoy more of God’s Creation. You go to the nearest plants and trees and eat dinner. You fellowship with your Creator. You go to bed. You sleep eight hours. |
In the “Now” these are examples of similar routine activities we experience in our daily lives. Can you pick out the differences between the “Now” and “Then?” Which one sounds hectic? We try to "scratch" out a living in the "Now." The curse placed on Adam in Genesis 3:17-19 tells us that Adam will have to grow his own food and he will have a difficult time as we experience today. I suggest you first look in Genesis 1-2 for the answers and a further study of Genesis 3&4 can answer more questions you might have concerning the contrast between the “Now” and “Then.”
