Possible Answers and Thoughts about the Article Now and Then
Some answers could border on speculation, however, remember that Creation was perfect according to Genesis 1:31. Things changed drastically after Adam and Eve sinned (called the Fall of Man in Genesis 3).

1.    It is highly probable Adam and Eve did not wake up tired and sleepy (Genesis 1:31 and Genesis 1:27).

2.   Adam and Eve didn't have to get ready and leave for work (Genesis 2:15). They could have stayed in the garden and not leave (maybe they did leave at times; who knows?). If everything was perfect and they were well provided for, why should work have been hard for them? I believe the answers lies in the fact they were to share in God's Creation and work should have been gratifying, pleasureful and not difficult until after they sinned (Genesis 3:16-19).

3.   Adam and Eve were naked (Genesis 2:25). They didn't have to dress (get ready to go to work). Also they didn't have any clothes so they didn't have to wash and dry them until after their fall (Genesis 3). See Genesis 3:7 for their early attempt to cover their nakedness. They also didn't have to get ready for bed, just lie down somewhere.

4.   All creation was given food by the Creator (Genesis 1:29-30 and Genesis 2:8-9). And, they didn't have to buy food, it was free!

5.   Adam and Eve shouldn't have had to cook and it is possible they could have if they wanted to. Today, we can pick many fruits and plants to eat them raw straight from the ground. Today, some fruits and plants are poisonous, but again, remember that Creation before the fall of man was perfect (contrast Genesis 1:31 with the account in Genesis 3).

6.   It is possible Adam and Eve felt refreshed after eating breakfast in the morning but more than likely not in the same way we experience it today (Genesis 1:31).

7.   Adam and Eve didn't have to feed the dog and they could have if they wanted to. All living things were given food (Genesis 1:29-30 and Genesis 2:8-9) and could have foraged for themselves.

8.   Adam (or Eve) could have kissed their respective spouse anytime they wanted to but the implication is they did not have to leave home and go to work and come back again (see # 2 & 3 above).

9.   Adam and Eve, since they probably didn't have to leave to go to work, they probably didn't have to grab an umbrella since there was no record yet of rain (Genesis 2:5-6).

10.  As to being tired, there is no immediate way to verify from the Genesis Accounts prior to the fall of man whether Adam and Eve ever experienced tiredness. An indication that life was going to be quite difficult after they sinned is found in Genesis 3:16-19). A look at Genesis 2:2-3 reveals that God rested on the seventh day as a model for humans to work six days and rest on the seventh, so it would appear highly probable that they followed this method of week-by-week activities. One aspect of this pattern is that God called the seventh day Holy or Hallowed. The Hebrews were commanded to follow this routine, not just for the health of mankind only, but to set aside a hallowed day of worship for the Almighty (Exodus 20:8-11). Note Exodus 20:11 verifying everything created in six days (yom=day) and resting on the seventh yom (Sabbath). Refer to the page on this website titled Hebrew for the word yom.

11.  Did Adam of Eve have to fix things that are broken? Who can tell? In a perfect world would it seem possible that nothing ever broke? Again, see Genesis 1:31.

12.  As Adam and Eve were enjoying God’s Perfect Creation (before the fall), it is probable they considered all animals and other living creatures as harmless, beneficial and friendly to them and that could include what we call monsters and very large land animals (dinosaurs?). So, walking the dog may not have been unusual (maybe they walked the dinosaur). No death before the fall of man is recorded. Genesis 3:21 reveals what God did for Adam and Eve after they sinned. Look at Genesis 9:2-6 and see what happened right after Noah and his family exited the ark.

13.  Adjusting the temperature in Adam’s and Eve’s house should probably not have been necessary even if they lived in a structure they called home. Consider what you would experience in a perfect world. I doubt also they needed a house because of the perfect conditions and that includes a perfect temperature as well (Genesis 1:31). Remember also they were naked (Genesis 2:25). We will have a type of house called a place prepared for us (John 14:2-3) when we Christians leave this earth and go to Heaven with our Lord.

14.  Whether or not Adam and Eve slept eight hours is speculation and is just used for comparison. We know that Adam slept in Genesis 2:21 when Eve was created so sleep must have been a part of God’s design for man before he sinned.

15.  Paying bills and balancing a checkbook sounds like to me something that may never have been necessary; even if Adam and Eve never sinned and had children and the population of the earth grew (Genesis 1:26-28). I can’t imagine having to pay bills in a perfect world where everything was originally supposed to have been provided for us. Still, remember Adam and Eve were to work and tend the Garden of Eden, but I don’t see how that could have been for wages as well.

16.  It is likely that Adam and Eve didn't have a TV with which to watch "bad news" and even if they did have some mode of communication, there were no other people in the rest of the world yet until they sinned and had their first two children (Genesis 4:1-2). The world was still perfect until the fall of man and how could there be any "bad news?" "Bad news" began when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden and when their first son, Cain killed their second son, Abel in a jealous fit of rage. Genesis 4 records that the dispute between Cain and Abel was over God rejecting Cain's sacrifice and accepting Abel's. Cain then took it out on his brother - the first murder. Now that's "bad news!" Cain's descendants should have all perished in the global flood recorded in Genesis 6-9.

The Reason for the Creation

Let’s remember why God created everything - especially when He created us as His Crowning Glory of Creation. He wanted to provide for us and for us to have fellowship with Him. He wanted to share His Creation with us. Do we have fellowship in the same manner as Adam and Eve had with our Creator today? I know it is not in the same manner as Adam and Eve experienced before they sinned. I am positive Adam and Eve had eye-to-eye contact with God (Pre-incarnate Jesus, I’m sure). They were allowed to have this type of contact because they were still perfect and blameless until they sinned.

What happened?

We have lost that close fellowship with our Creator forever as humans on earth due to sin. Today we Christians have Jesus Christ who took all our sins to the Cross and the Holy Spirit within us. He is willing to restore the once perfect fellowship in each of us that Adam and Eve once had. No religion or method of belief can claim what we have once we accept Jesus into our lives! A restored relationship with Jesus is not a religion. We cannot earn back this relationship that was lost since Adam and Eve sinned (Ephesians 2:8-9). Just like Adam and Eve ran and hid from their Creator in the Garden of Eden, He (Pre-incarnate Jesus) came looking for them (Genesis 3:9-10). He forgave their sins by a blood sacrifice through the death of the first animal(s) He killed. He used the skins (Genesis 3:21) to cover their shame and nakedness. The death of these first animals is the sacrifice of a blameless, pure and innocent animal representing Jesus. As fully God and fully man, Jesus, who gave Himself as a blameless and innocent sacrifice, left His Throne in Heaven and came to earth to save us from our sins through His shed blood on the cross!! AMEN! And HALLELUJAH!

What incredible Love (John 3:16-18). God forgive us if we ignore Genesis Chapters 1-11!
